The A80R sits between two product categories: more local computing than a conventional rugged Android tablet, smaller than a 10-inch or 13-inch industrial computer. The RK3588 gives you an M.2 2280 SSD slot (up to 1TB), your choice of Android 12 or Ubuntu, Wi-Fi 6, and Gigabit Ethernet in an 8-inch IP68 body. The motherboard also reserves UART, USB, 3.3V and 5V lines — this is a tablet meant to be integrated into your equipment, not just carried alongside it.
Where it gets used: industrial dashboards and equipment visualization, offline data analysis at the edge, vehicle-mounted computing, and custom OEM terminals.
Frequently Asked Questions About A80R Rugged Tablet
1. What makes the A80R different from your other 8-inch tablets?
Computing headroom and integration depth. The RK3588 adds an M.2 2280 SSD slot (up to 1TB), a choice of Android 12 or Ubuntu, Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet — plus reserved UART, USB and 3.3V/5V lines on the motherboard for OEM integration. If you just need data collection, the A80ST is cheaper. If you're building equipment around the tablet, start here.
2. Is an SSD included?
The M.2 2280 slot is built in, but no SSD ships as standard — capacity up to 1TB is quoted separately as a configuration option.
3. What are the port speeds?
Ethernet is Gigabit (100/1000M), and both USB ports are USB 3.0. One thing not yet confirmed: PD charging and DisplayPort video output on the Type-C port. If either matters to your project, ask before you design around it.
4. Does it have Wi-Fi 6 and 5G?
Wi-Fi 6 is standard. Cellular is optional and configured per region and carrier — tell us your destination market and we'll confirm band support.
5. Can Android and Ubuntu run on the same unit?
They're separate factory configurations, not a validated dual-boot setup. Pick one per unit; if your project genuinely needs both, talk to us about the imaging process.
6. Does it have an RS232 port?
Not as a finished external connector — the motherboard reserves an internal UART, which is not the same thing. If your application needs dedicated serial connectivity, tell us at the quoting stage; building it out is a customization we've done before.
7. Is the battery removable?
No — the 5,550mAh pack is built in. The A80R is designed for docked and vehicle installations where it runs on external power most of the time. If you need handheld all-day use with battery swaps, the A80STX-5G (removable 9,400mAh, IP67) is the better fit.
