Some jobs don't give you two hands or a flat surface — climbing a pipe rack, walking a tank farm, squeezing down a storage aisle. That's where the W65G-EX earns its place: a 6.5-inch Windows handheld certified Ex ib IIC T4 Gb / Ex ib IIIC T130°C Db, approved for Zone 1 and Zone 21 — not just Zone 2. It runs the same Windows inspection and scanning software as our 10-inch tablets, in a format you can operate with one gloved hand and park in a chest pocket.
Need a bigger screen or Windows-only diagnostic suites? Look at the W10N-EX (N5100) or W18Y-EX (Core i7) instead.
Petrochemical Walk-Around Inspection
The compact Windows format can support checklists, asset records and maintenance updates on routes where a full-size tablet is inconvenient. Use only when the final gas certificate matches the site classification.
Gas Pipeline Patrol
GPS/BeiDou and optional cellular connectivity can support route records and field data synchronization. Cellular band and runtime depend on the final configuration — tell us the patrol region and shift length and we'll confirm both.
Chemical Warehouse Identification
An optional 2D scanner can capture container labels, asset tags and inventory records in narrow storage aisles. The scanner sits inside the certified boundary, so the engine choice happens at order time, not after.
Confined-Space Access Routes
The 6.5-inch form factor is easier to carry than a 10.1-inch tablet for ladders, access passages and equipment-dense work areas. It does not replace confined-space safety procedures or atmospheric monitoring.
Maintenance and Work-Order Records
Windows 11 supports compatible enterprise forms, work-order clients and browser-based systems. Validate screen scaling, application performance and offline data requirements on the N4020 configuration.
Mobile Barcode and Asset Workflows
The handheld format and optional 2D engine can combine scanning and Windows software in one device. Confirm scanner ergonomics, supported codes and certificate coverage before standardizing a fleet.
Ex Explosion-Proof Certificate
- Gas: Ex ib IIC T4 Gb — Zone 1/2; IIC covers hydrogen and acetylene
- Dust: Ex ib IIIC T130°C Db — Zone 21/22; IIIC covers conductive dusts

Why Choose W65G-EX?
Choose W65G-EX when a verified project needs Windows software in a compact hand-carried device and optional barcode scanning matters more than a large display or full industrial I/O. It is positioned for quick inspection entries, material identification and mobile records in tight work areas.
W65G-EX vs W10N-EX N5100
Choose W65G-EX for portability, a 6.5-inch handheld format and barcode-led workflows. Choose W10N-EX when the technician needs a larger 10.1-inch display, a four-core N5100 platform, built-in RJ45, full-size DB9 RS232, Micro HDMI or a defined 5550mAh/10000mAh power option.
W65G-EX vs W18Y-EX i7
Choose W65G-EX for hand-carried inspection and light Windows applications. Choose W18Y-EX i7 when the verified workload needs more processor and memory headroom, a larger screen and a slim tablet form factor for engineering files or diagnostic software.
W65G-EX vs an Android Explosion-Proof Handheld or Tablet
Choose W65G-EX when a Windows/x86 application is mandatory. Choose an Android model when the workflow is based on Android apps, camera-led data collection, broader mobile-device management or a different battery strategy. Compare certificate scope, scanner, radios and software—not only operating system.
When Is W65G-EX Not the Right Choice?
Do not select or publish W65G-EX when the project requires a named ATEX/IECEx certificate that has not been supplied, guaranteed all-shift runtime, Zone 0/20, heavy Windows analysis, large technical drawings, built-in RJ45/RS232, or battery replacement inside a hazardous atmosphere. Resolve the certificate and missing specifications first.
Frequently Asked Questions about W65G-EX Hazardous Area Windows Handheld
1. Is W65G-EX ATEX-certified?
Yes — the Ex ib IIC T4 Gb / Ex ib IIIC T130°C Db configuration is ATEX-certified for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust (and covers Zone 2/22 by extension). The certificate copy comes with our quotation.
2. What do the Ex ib IIC T4 Gb and Ex ib IIIC T130°C Db markings mean for selection?
Gb is the Zone 1/2 gas protection level; Db is the Zone 21/22 dust level. Match the certificate's group, temperature class and ambient range to your site classification — the marking alone doesn't close the review. Final suitability depends on the actual certificate, site classification, group, temperature limit, ambient range and approved hardware.
3. Can W65G-EX be used in Zone 2?
Yes — Zone 1-rated equipment covers Zone 2 by design. The reverse is not true, which is why the marking on the nameplate matters more than the word "compatible".
4. Can W65G-EX be used in Zone 21 dust areas?
The Db marking corresponds to Zone 21/22 dust projects.
5. Is IP65 the same as explosion-proof certification?
No. IP65 addresses dust and water-jet ingress under defined test conditions. Explosion-protection certification addresses ignition risk in an explosive atmosphere. An IP65 handheld is not automatically safe for a hazardous area.
6. What processor does W65G-EX use?
Intel Celeron N4020, a two-core, two-thread mobile processor with a 1.1GHz base frequency and burst frequency up to 2.8GHz. Intel lists a reference TDP of 6W.
7. What workloads are suitable for the N4020 configuration?
It is suited to light Windows tasks such as forms, work orders, barcode software, browser-based records and basic document viewing. It is not intended for heavy analysis, complex CAD or sustained multitasking.
8. Does W65G-EX support Windows 11?
Yes — Windows 11 is the shipping image. On a 6.5-inch screen we recommend task-focused apps and scanning workflows rather than multi-window desktop software; see Q9.
9. Is a 6.5-inch display practical for Windows applications?
It can be practical for task-focused forms and scanning applications, but desktop controls may be small.
10. Can W65G-EX be operated with one hand?
The 6.5-inch format is built for one-handed carry. Before a fleet order, request a sample and validate one-hand reach with your actual gloves and scanner trigger — grip comfort is a shift-long issue, not a datasheet line.
11. Does it include a 2D barcode scanner?
The 2D scanner is optional. Confirm the scanner engine, supported symbologies, scan distance, trigger design, software driver and whether the scanner configuration is included in the hazardous-area certificate.
12. Are 4G and 5G available?
4G or 5G is available as a project option. We select the modem and band set for your destination country — tell us the region and carrier at RFQ stage, because the radio module is part of the certified configuration.
13. What positioning systems are supported?
GPS/BeiDou as standard. If the project needs centimetre-level work, ask about RTK options on our tablet models — this handheld is metre-level positioning.
If the job needs two hands free and Windows in a pocket, this is the one. Tell us the destination country, your Zone and gas/dust group, and whether you need the scan engine — we'll come back with the certified configuration and its certificate copy.
